The Canada Carbon Rebate is a direct payment that offsets the costs of carbon pollution pricing. Formerly the Climate Action Incentive Payment, the Canada Carbon Rebate was significantly modified in 2024, with the rural supplement increased and eligibility based on new census data.
What’s New for 2025?
- Rural Supplement Increased
- Starting June 22, 2024 the rural supplement went up from 10% to 20% of the base amount.
- Retrospective Payment: The retroactive payments between April and July 2024 will be provided with the CCR payment during October 2024.
- Adjustments to Eligibility
- 2024 CCR eligibility returned back to the census data from the year 2016, it increased the list of eligible persons that were cut off using census data from the year 2021.

Eligibility
You are eligible for CCR if, at the start of the month of payment, you meet all of the following conditions: >
1.Residency:
You must have been a resident of Canada in the month prior to the month of payment.
You must reside in one of the following provinces:
Alberta, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Saskatchewan.

2.Age:
At least 19 years of age at the time of the month the CRA makes the payment.
Under 19 years of age if you meet at least one of the following
You have a spouse or common-law partner.
You are a parent sharing a home with your child?

3.Child Qualifying:
If you have children, the CCR counts a credit for each qualifying child if he or she is:.
Under 19 years of age.
Lives with you.
Is registered for the CCR (or previously registered for the Canada Child Benefit (CCB) or GST/HST credit).
Shared Custody:
In the case of shared custody, each parent receives 50% of what they would get if the child were to stay with them full-time.

Provinces that are Excluded from the Canada Carbon Rebate
The CCR is not applicable in the provinces of British Columbia, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Quebec, and Yukon. These have carbon pricing schemes implemented in these jurisdictions.
Application Method
Repayment is made through automatic processing upon submission of tax return. Add eligible children. For that purpose, make sure they are already registered for either the CCB or the GST/HST credit. Get an application procedure through the CRA’s website.
